Creating winning partnerships where the horse comes first and foremost

Schooling for Trail, Reining, Dressage

Once the initial “training” or “retraining” is done it is time for the schooling to begin.   At Symphony Stables we take a horses from start to finish.

All of the riding fundamentals we use are based on classical dressage, even our western riding.  The mechanics of the horse are the same whether you ride in an English saddle or wear a cowboy hat.  A horse is a horse is a horse.  The mechanics do not change.  I’ve heard upper level dressage coaches say “if you don’t have a good dressage coach in your area, find a good reining coach.”   Some of greatest reiners of all time, were firmly grounded in dressage before they became reiners.

Symphony has produced multiple Eastern Canadian Arab Trail Champs, and have competed successfully at the national level in trail as well.  Other Championships in Eastern Canada include a Reserve high point Championship in Open Purebred Western Pleasure, and a High Point Championship in Open Purebred Reining.

While Walt likes to take his trail training & reining practice to the competitive arena, Gis strives for nothing less than perfection in equitation, training and coaching.  Solid training principles apply whether in the arena or on the trail.  We can help make your next trail ride a pleasant experience, as well.

A good trail horse demonstrates faith in its handler, and the ability for the horse and rider to communicate quickly while making quick, smooth transitions while manoeuvring through, around, and over obstacles.  Suppleness and willingness are a key.   Principles that are equally important in reining and dressage as well.
